Why the red-rumped agouti?
The red-rumped agouti (also called golden-rumped agouti) is a medium-sized rodent with a compact, hare-like body set on long, slender legs. It measures roughly 48 to 64 cm in length and weighs about 3 to 6 kg. The head and shoulders are olive-brown with fine black speckling, while the rump glows in warm shades of orange to reddish-gold, giving the animal its name.
The agouti is one of the very few animals with teeth strong enough to gnaw open the woody pods of the Brazil nut tree, and the seeds it forgets after burying them help new trees grow.
How adoption works

- 3We'll keep sending you updates and photos of your animal.
- 4For the Patron and Benefactor tiers we'll arrange a visit and experiences with you.
The adoption is symbolic — the animal stays in the care of the zoo. It also makes a great gift: in the note at checkout, tell us who the certificate should be made out to. More information at info@zoosedlec.cz.
